Team members at the Center for Government Excellence at Johns Hopkins University exploring “tapping,” or Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to help release negative emotions, reduce stress and promote a sense of calm while balancing the body’s energy system.

(CHALLENGE)
Neighborhood blight, driven by racialized disinvestment, requires policies that go beyond quick fixes and address the systemic causes. The challenge was to create a foundation for policies that integrate ethical community engagement and sustainable change.
(approach)
The workshop provided city officials and consultants with a deep understanding of racial disinvestment, design methodologies for building trust, and strategies for activating meaningful engagement. This approach aimed to align policy-making with community empowerment while tackling underlying issues of blight.
(RESULTS)
Participants were empowered to create trauma-informed policies that foster empathy and long-term solutions. These insights are now being implemented, leading to more ethical, effective community engagement and systemic change in addressing neighborhood blight.
