Opportunity

  • Hosted for the first time in Africa, the World Forum on the Social and Solidarity Economy shares best practices and visions that will help build a more inclusive and egalitarian world through sustainable economic development.
  • Organized across seven thematic tracks, this year's forum amplified the social and solidarity economy for recognition, legitimacy, and impact. The social and solidarity economy prioritizes social and environmental objectives, alongside economic ones.
  • Encompassing an ecosystem of sustainable development, the approach encourages cooperation, human well-being, democratic decision-making, pluralism, and shared responsibility to meet the needs of individuals and communities.

Approach

Working with photographer, activist, and multimedia artist, Moyo Oyelola, Axle Impact Studios fused performance art and policy design through a critique of government administrative procedures. A new Department of the People + Process branch, under the Division of False Authority, opened for intake. Adapting Oyelola's existing work, "Department of the People + Process," to the conference theme, the French language, and cultural nodes, the experience engaged passersby through questions of how and where they imagine facilitated through a collaborative team across Atlantic Fellows of the Rhodes Trust, LEGS-Africa and the Best English Training Academy. Situated between the Museum of Black Civilizations and the forum's Innovation Village, the activation sparked dialogue on how the built and created environment of government administration could entertain more relational points of view.
