Opportunity
- In response to border closures and ongoing adaptations to a global pandemic, a once-in-person convening of thousands of mission-minded fellows transitioned online.
- Designers were asked how we might translate genuine feelings of love, celebration, and belonging across a vast network of cultures without full interaction.
Approach
Working with poets, artists, and technologists, we co-designed an augmented artifact that leveraged postal mail and mobile phones for global connectivity. Infusing connections to the land and heritage across diasporas, with poetry, music, and animation, the extended reality tool transformed a static shot within the receiver's home, into a virtual, 3D representation of welcome. Adapted for use with both Android and iPhones, additional accommodations were made for individuals who did not have comparable make/models to support full engagement.
